Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity

2007-2008 Committees

Any volunteers interested in participating with a committee can indicate this on their applications or by contacting our Office: 912.315.8122.

Family Selection:

The Family Selection Committee works to carry out the board's vision by defining for the community the population in need of decent, affordable housing, and by developing processes and policies for selecting those in greatest need. Once the application process has been approved, this group will work with families who have applied, making sure that the applicant families meet the established criteria. Working with the Family Selection Committee, you will find joy in making what seems an unobtainable dream come true for some of these families.

Family Support:

Habitat affiliates are committed to "the development and uplifting of families and communities, not only the construction of houses." Members of the Family Support Committee will work to establish tools and procedures for accomplishing this task. This committee will work with families to be sure that the families know what is required in the area of sweat equity and to help in the transition to homeownership.

Resource Development:

The Resource Development Committee assumes the leadership for implementing the public relations and fundraising policies and goals of the Board of Directors. Fundraising assistance is needed when approaching donors for either cash or "in-kind" gifts of material, labor, property, or support. Public relations include writing for newsletters, newspapers, advertising for special events, and public speaking.

Land Acquisition:

The Land Acquisition Committee works to define neighborhoods and communities to work with and find available land to build on. This includes working with city offices, neighborhood associations and property owners. Those who enjoy dabbling in real estate are natural members!

Construction Committee:

The Construction Committee works with the Land Acquisition Committee to define the type of construction that best fits the needs of the local community and Habitat's goals. The committee proposes guidelines to the Board for the type of construction work that the affiliate will do, dealing specifically with the house design criteria, materials, plans, and cost estimates.

Volunteer Services:

Habitat is a volunteer based organization. Because of the large number of eager workers, there is always a need for those willing to coordinate volunteers, make phone calls, correspond and send thank you notes.
