Since its establishment in 1983, Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity has successfully constructed over 160 homes in Savannah and its surrounding areas, providing safe, decent, and affordable housing to families who might otherwise be unable to achieve homeownership. The Construction Team, led by Mr. Deidrick Cody and assisted by an unwavering group of volunteers known as the Hammerheads, play a crucial role in ensuring these homes are built safely and in a timely manner.
As our building process is heavily reliant on volunteers from the local community, as well as corporate and faith-based sponsors, the Construction Team is proud to announce the completion of our current home this month. Over the last four months, our community volunteers, along with our Hammerheads, have worked side by side with future homeowners, performing a variety of tasks ranging from framing walls to painting, landscaping, and everything in between. This volunteer-driven approach not only reduces construction costs, making homes more affordable, but also strengthens community bonds and raises awareness about the housing crisis in the region. The Construction Team is very proud to be part of the Habitat family and look forward to building many more affordable homes in the future. We will begin our next project on W. 53rd Street in the month of September. We are always looking for volunteers to join us as we help build homes, communities, and hope.
